I want to go to the park but it has started to rain today. So I am just climbing all over the couch, and standing on my head. I can now stand on my head by myself with my feet on the wall or couch. I even showed my mom yesterday that I could stand on my head with my feet up against the underside of my bunkbed. I really like to wrestle on the floor with Joseph, and Adam too, but Joseph is more fun. I don't like to stop wrestling when I am having fun. Mom sometimes gets frustrated when we don't listen to her and keep playing rough anyway.
I am the first one that gets up everyday. I like to wake up and go and read books on the couch. I also like to look at any magazine I can find, even at the table (see right). I can't read yet, but I like to look at them. Joseph is learning to read now, and I listen when he is learning. Mom remebers me saying once, "My name is Matthew and it starts with letters." I know my ABC's, and can count almost to 20. My favorite number to say over and over is twelve-teen.
We went to the park yesterday and rode our bikes. We can't ride our bikes in our backyard because the yard is too small. I like to ride my bike and go real fast. I have my own helmet too. My mom and dad keep telling me to watch where I am going, but I like to look around at everything. I fell down about 6 times yesterday on my bike. But I got up again, put my bike back up, and kept riding.

The sun has been out more, and I like that because then I get to go outside more. Our backyard now has some grass, so we have been going out there and playing with our trucks and on the slides. I start to get crabby if I am inside too long. I do like to draw and color though. Actually, I like to do what ever Joseph is doing. I have really gotten interested in more books lately. The only thing Mom doesn't like though is when I tear books, or rip out pages, but that is only becuase I get going too fast in turning those pages. You know me, I just get goofy and silly sometimes, and don't ususally slow down when I go to do something. Now that Adam is rolling around, I really like to walk over him, or push on his tummy to make him laugh; It is so easy to make him laugh!

I am almost 2 years old, and I am starting to do a lot of different things. I like to look at books a lot more now. My favorite books are I Spy, Miss Spider, and a few others. I like looking at all the colorful pictures. I also like to play with Joseph and run around the house with him. He likes running around with me too. He is always having me play with him in his bedroom on his bed. We used to jump on it when it was just a mattress of the floor, but now that he has a big bed (head board and frame) Mom doesn't want us to jump on the big bed. I do anyways, sometimes. Sometimes Joseph is too rough with me and he will push or hit me. Sometimes I will even hit him back, but just wait until I get older!!
My most favorite thing right now is to play with my little brother Adam. I love getting on the floor with him and making him laugh. It is not that hard, I just tickle his tummy. I also like to make him roll over and over. He laughs when I do that too. I don't know why, but Mom and Dad won't let me pick him up, even though I am always trying. When Adam is not in his bouncy chair or car seat, I like to recline in them, but I am a bit too big for them. I even try to get in the supersaucer when no one is looking, but it is really hard to get out by myself.
I am finally starting to talk more. But it is a good thing that Mom and Dad talk me some basic sign language, or I would get really frustrated trying to communicate. I use signs for: want more, hat, flower, blow, duck, draw, eat, bottle, eye, ear, mouth, tummy, brush teeth. Words that I can easily say are bye-bye (note: don't ever say this unless you mean it. He will run to the closet, grab his shoes, and hound you until they are on and you are out the door!!), socks, shoes, juice, baby, out.

On May 28 I turned one year old. I had a small birthday party with just a couple of friends.  It didn't take long to figure out what all those colorful packages were for and what I was suppose to do with them.  My friends all helped me open them.  The cake was great, Mom had to keep my hands away from it long enough to light the candle and take a picture.
I finally got to see my grandma and grandpa from Texas. It was also their first time visiting us in California.  I had to sleep with my brother in his room, and they slept in my room. Now I sleep in my room only during naps, and sleep at night in Joseph's room. Mom says that Joseph's room is now both of ours, and my (old) bedroom is for Adam. I still get to take naps in Adam's room since Joseph and I talk too much when trying to nap in the same room.
I got to fly on a long trip to Massachusetts to see Grandma Moniz and my cousins, Aunts, and Uncles. We went to the beach a lot and I really liked eating the sand and rocks, and running in the surf. Mom and Dad had a hard time keeping up with me because I was always running to the ocean or throwing sand.  I did not like that big dog Lucy or all those cats.  At least the cats were about my size, but I am glad they kept away from me.
I love running around after Joseph, and we play together with cars and other toys.  Just yesterday Mom and Joseph taught me how to play "Ring Around the Rosie".  I guess Joseph is helping Mom a lot because he will hold my hand when we walk out to the car, or if I am suppose to get out of the bathroom.  The only thing I don't like is when Joseph pushes me to the floor.  Just wait, I'll get him yet!  I also like to climb whatever I can, and tickle and roll on the floor with Joseph and Dad.
I can say a few words now.  My first word was "See?" as I point to things.  I still use this word the most.  I also say bottle and bye-bye (both "bah bah"), "vroom" as I drive my cars, "Ma Ma", and sometimes even "Da Da".  I use hand signs to say "more", "dog", "(ceiling) fan", and "all done" and wave goodbye and goodnight.

I am just about 1 year old, and am pretty big for my size.  I am crawling really fast and really like walking around the room holding onto furniture, the walls, and toys.  The best thing is watching my brother, Joseph.  He just makes me laugh, and is always moving around.  He likes to tickle me, and we hug and roll on the floor a lot.  I have 12 teeth total so far, which includes 4 up, 4 down, and the first set of molars.  My gums are hurting again, so I am probably getting more.  I love to eat whatever I can get my hands on: carrots, peas, bananas, pears, applesauce, and anything I find on the floor.  I don't really like baby cereal much anymore, but it is not bad with something yummy in it.
The thing that seems to bother Mom the most right now is when I play with the cords on the table lamps.  It is so much fun to yank on them until they come out of the wall.  Sometimes Joseph even helps me.  I also like to climb up on the coffee table that is against the fireplace, Joseph showed me how.  When Mom sees me though, she gives me a swat on my leg, and tells me to stay down.  So I don't get up there as much as I used to, but I think about it a lot.

A lot seems to have changed in just a month. I now have 6 shining white teeth as part of my huge grin, I can sit up by myself (until I get really excited, then I topple over), and happily I can roll all over the room. I think this has Mom worried a bit, I guess I am getting around too fast for here comfort. The tough part is trying to make it all the way through the hallway, I always get stuck against the wall about half way through. I must be growing too, because I am eating a whole lot more, including rice cereal, carrots, and toasted O's. I have even figured out how to pick up those tiny O's myself. It doesn't take much to keep me happy these days. And of course, my favorite toys are those that I cannot reach on the other side of the room.

We just got done with a great weekend with Grandma Moniz. She came a visited and played with me and my brother. Now I have even more teeth coming in again; Mom and dad seem to think I will never stop teething, but my mouth is only so big. I am trying to sit up now, but always fall over after about half a second. I am usually just content to lay on the floor chewing on what ever toy I can get my hands on.

As if my first 2 teeth were not enough trouble, I now have two more teeth on the top. They sure are causing me quite a bit of pain too. Sometimes I wake up suddenly in the middle of the night, or I will start screaming because my gums hurt so bad. Joseph tries real hard though to keep me entertained. He brings me toys, and will even sit down on the floor with me to try and calm me down. I sure do like it when he does this; he is the only one in the house even close to my size!

Sometimes I wonder about my mom and dad: For the past few weeks I have been quite fussy and they could not even figure out why. Finally, my bottom teeth broke through and they figured it out. I kept trying to tell them what was going on by chewing on their hands and fingers, and drooling a lot. So now I have my first 2 teeth coming in. Grandma Moniz came to visit this last weekend, and we had a great time. She would hold me a lot, and I think mom enjoyed that part because that gave her a chance to relax more. I sure enjoyed having a new face to smile and giggle at.

This last weekend was labor day weekend, and we all went to Seattle for the weekend to visit friends and relatives. It was my first airplane ride. I had a lot of fun smiling at all the other passengers on the plane and I had no problem with the air pressure, what ever that is. I got to meet my Grandma Friedly and also the Stubbs family. The weather wasn't bad either, not that I cared since I didn't get outside much.

My brother's birthday was yesterday, but I slept through most of the festivities. I watched him open some of his presents, but he wouldn't share, or maybe I didn't know how to ask . . . I can hold my head still now when I am held upright, and I really like to look around at everything around me. I like to laugh and giggle now, I can even make myself laugh when I look in the mirror since the face on the other side laughs and smiles back. I am starting to grab at the toys that are hung over my head, but I haven't figured out what to do with them, though I try to stick some of the in my mouth. Everything tastes good you know. My mom keeps putting my on my tummy (she calls it "tummy time") but every time she does, I fall asleep since my thumb fits very comfortably in my mouth when I am on my tummy. I'm not sure what she is trying to get me to do, get strong and start crawling?? I will start when I am good and ready!!

I am almost 2 months old, and I can just about hold my head still when I am held upright. I finally found my thumb, after much coaching from mom, so now when I am upset or a bit hungry, I just suck on my thumb. I smile quite a bit, but I can't help it since I am so happy. I especially like to smile at my brother and he just laughs back at me. I really like hanging out with my brother, I just wish I could play with all those cool toys that he has. But I am watching him closely, and learning everything I can, so that when I am big and strong enough he will let me play too.
