From the gallery above, the nobility and gentry look out upon the jousting field. The squires and pages prepare the valiant knights. Seated upon their wobbly steeds, lance in hand, each knight surveys the field as Dimitri attaches a ring to the quintain. Master of the games, Lord Lyngus, signals with his flag that the knights are to charge. Pretty maidens cheer on as the knights are pushed on their path and teeter down the field. Toward the quintain they pedal, faster and faster. Miraculously the lance finds the ring and the knights finish their run to the end of the field. The squires and pages follow them and prepare the knights for yet another try.
