Repartees The repartees are a series of exercises in which two fencers
facing each other within measure, engage in an exchange of blades. The exchange
of blade action encompasses attacks, parries, ripostes, remises and differing
footwork and body voids and offhand action. As a whole we view this exchange of swordplay to be a communication of swordplay, or in French, a repartee. Designed by the senior instructors of the Diamond Rose for the benefit of all the students, the repartees build muscle memory and can be executed with the sword in either hand. It is the goal of the Diamond Rose instructors to create the repartees with increasing difficulty and will eventually be designed to include offhand weapons. With exercises such as these, the Diamond Rose endeavors to have our students achieve a high degree of skill, not only in recognizing their opponents moves and making the appropriate counter-moves, but also to have our students be capable of engaging in a continued attack to improve their fencing skills and success in dueling. |
