Set up of the encampment went smoothly with lots of help from the early risers of the Diamond Rose. Thanks especially to Patrick, Marc and Dante and his helpers. As the morning progressed into day, the other schools of swordplay arrived and made themselves at home. After a brief introduction of our esteemed guest schools, Maestro Dante and Lady Mina outlined the fencing plan for the day and the rules of the tournament.
The afternoon sun warmed the field as the fencers lined either side of the large grassy area ready to capture the flag. Blue team fought against red team in many melee` games. Family members and guests sat upon the hillside and watched as the flags were fought for and won over and over to the opposing side. Captain Lysander and Maestro Dante marshaled the field. Maestros Ragazony and Lyngus led the peanut gallery with well timed comments.
The better part of the day was spent running the tournament. Maestros Dante and Lysander marshalled the two erics. Lady Mina was listmistress and kept the fencers on deck and ready to bout with the assistance of the very loud echoing of young Lord Luigi. The rules of the tournament were double elimination in as many rounds as it would take to determine a winner. In the final round was Sir Giullaume and Sir Antonio of the esteemed Guild of St Michaels. Sir Guillaume did best his worthy felllow fencer in a best-of-three final round and was awarded the winner's sword. The erics were then turned over to the fencers of the Diamond Rose who had to play their prize in dance card fashion with the fencing instructors of the Diamond Rose. A fine display of fencing skill was shown by the fencers from all the schools represented; the Diamond Rose of Auburn, the Raven's Guard of Lake Tahoe, the Guild of St. Michaels from San Jose, La Escuela de la Spada from Turlock and the Mydnite Rose of Winters, Ca. Huzzah!
